  • 8 oz flank, skirt, or sirloin steak (thinly sliced)
  • 2 packs (7 oz each) cooked or frozen udon noodles
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ½ small onion (thinly sliced)
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 3 tbsp water (slurry)
  • 1 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • Optional: Sliced scallions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the beef against the grain and season with salt and pepper. Toss with soy sauce and cornstarch if desired.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, black pepper, sesame oil, and cornstarch slurry; set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef slices and sear until browned; remove from pan.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté minced garlic and sliced onion until fragrant.
  5. Add udon noodles and prepared sauce to the skillet; toss until heated through.
  6. Return seared beef to the skillet and mix well before serving with optional toppings.
