  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter for icing
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup for icing
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar for icing
  • pinch salt for icing

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  2. Cream softened butter and brown sugar with a mixer until smooth. Add the egg and beat until combined.
  3. Mix in maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract until well blended.
  4. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients followed by chopped pecans until the dough is soft.
  5. Chill the dough for at least 2 hours before baking.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll dough into balls (about 1.5 tablespoons each) and bake for 12-13 minutes.
  8. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheets briefly before transferring them to wire racks.
  9. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt butter and maple syrup together while whisking occasionally. Once melted, remove from heat and whisk in sifted confectioners’ sugar. Taste; add a pinch of salt if desired. Drizzle over cooled cookies.
