  • 2 and 1/3 cups (291g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (8 Tbsp; 113g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup (200g) packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup (130g) chopped pecans
  • 2 Tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter for icing
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup for icing
  • 1 cup (112g) sifted confectioners’ sugar for icing
  • pinch salt, to taste for icing

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  2. Cream softened butter and dark brown sugar using a mixer until smooth; add egg and mix well.
  3. Combine wet ingredients (maple syrup, vanilla extract, maple extract) and blend.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and fold in chopped pecans until incorporated.
  5. Chill dough covered for at least 2 hours.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C); line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll dough into balls and place them on baking sheets with space between each ball.
  8. Bake for 12–13 minutes until edges are light brown but centers remain soft.
  9. Cool on baking sheets before transferring to wire racks.
