  • 2 Tbsp dried culinary lavender (for simple syrup)
  • ½ Cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 2⅓ Cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 Tbsp cooled lavender simple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, crushed lavender, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Cream softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by egg yolks and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually combine dry ingredients and buttermilk into the creamed mixture until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool before preparing the lavender simple syrup by simmering sugar, water, and dried lavender.
  7. Make the lavender buttercream by beating softened butter and gradually adding powdered sugar until smooth; mix in cooled syrup.
